IndonesiaBrief.com — As Indonesia’s capital market continues to evolve through rapid digitalization, Perkumpulan Profesi Pasar Modal Indonesia (PROPAMI), the Indonesian Capital Market Professionals Association, is reaffirming its commitment to strengthening professionalism, integrity, and human capital across the industry.

Marking its 16th anniversary on August 9, 2026, PROPAMI sees the milestone not merely as a celebration of its establishment in 2010, but as an opportunity to reinforce the role of capital market professionals in maintaining public trust and supporting the long-term development of Indonesia’s financial market.

PROPAMI Chairman N.S. Aji Martono emphasized that trust remains the most important foundation of the capital market, extending beyond trading values, investor growth, and technological advancement.

“Trust is the most fragile, yet the most valuable asset in the capital market,” said Aji Martono.

According to Martono, safeguarding the integrity and reputation of the capital market cannot be left solely to regulators. It requires a collective commitment from every professional working within the ecosystem.

“It is a collective responsibility of every professional who chooses to take the right path,” he said.

The message is increasingly relevant as Indonesia’s capital market becomes faster, more digital, and more accessible. Technology has lowered barriers to investment and accelerated access to information, but it has also introduced new challenges involving professional integrity, compliance, risk management, and the quality of investment decisions.

For PROPAMI, modernization must not come at the expense of professional values. On the contrary, as information flows faster and investment decisions can be made through a smartphone screen, the need for professionals who combine technical competence with strong ethical standards becomes even more critical.

When Trust Becomes the Capital Market’s Most Valuable Currency

The capital market is often viewed through numbers: rising and falling prices, trading volumes, corporate valuations, and investment returns.

Yet behind those numbers is a fundamental element that remains unchanged—the human factor.

The capital market is not built solely on financial capital. It is built on trust.

Investors entrust their funds to the market. Issuers rely on professionals to support their capital-raising activities. Regulators establish and enforce the rules. Exchanges provide the market infrastructure. Meanwhile, professionals perform critical functions that allow the entire ecosystem to operate in an orderly and credible manner.

When trust is undermined, the impact can extend far beyond a single transaction or company.

That is why professionalism cannot be defined simply as technical expertise.

A capital market professional must understand financial instruments, assess risks, keep pace with regulatory developments, and maintain a strong ethical compass when dealing with competing interests.

This is where PROPAMI seeks to play its role.

Sixteen Years of Strengthening Professionalism

Established on August 9, 2010, PROPAMI has developed as a professional community for Indonesia’s capital market practitioners.

The organization provides a platform where professionals can exchange experiences, expand networks, strengthen their capabilities, and discuss developments affecting the industry.

Its journey has taken place alongside major changes in Indonesia’s capital market.

Technology has advanced. Investment products have become increasingly diverse. Retail investor participation has expanded. Information now moves at unprecedented speed. At the same time, regulatory expectations and professional standards continue to evolve.

In such an environment, technical expertise alone is no longer sufficient.

A professional may be highly skilled at reading financial statements, analyzing price charts, understanding market movements, or evaluating investment instruments. But those capabilities lose their value when they are not accompanied by integrity.

PROPAMI recognizes that competence and ethics must develop together.

Professional development, therefore, cannot stop at acquiring knowledge. It must also address how that knowledge is applied responsibly in the interests of investors, the market, and the broader financial ecosystem.

More Than a Professional Community

Building a professional organization is not a simple task.

Capital market professionals operate under demanding conditions, facing work pressures, performance targets, market volatility, and significant responsibilities.

PROPAMI seeks to provide a space where professionals can remain connected despite those pressures.

It serves as a forum where members can exchange experiences while maintaining healthy professional competition. Senior practitioners can share their experience with younger professionals, while a new generation can contribute fresh perspectives shaped by technological change and evolving investor behavior.

This is where a professional association becomes increasingly important.

PROPAMI connects professionals with one another while also connecting past experience with the demands of the future.

The capital market continues to evolve. Investment instruments change, financial technology develops, investor communication patterns shift, and regulations become increasingly dynamic.

Without continuous learning, professionals can quickly fall behind—not necessarily because they lack ability, but because they stop updating their knowledge.

Strengthening professional capacity is therefore an important part of PROPAMI’s ongoing mission.

But there is another message that is even more fundamental:

Intelligence without ethics can become a risk.

The Responsibility of Safeguarding Professional Reputation

For its members, a professional association can serve as a home. For its leaders, however, it represents a responsibility.

Leading a professional organization in the capital market is not simply about position, visibility, or organizational status. It carries the responsibility of protecting the reputation of the profession while ensuring that the organization remains relevant as the industry changes.

This is where the concept of marwah becomes particularly meaningful.

Marwah can be understood as dignity, honor, and professional integrity.

Safeguarding marwah means having the courage to uphold principles when short-term interests become tempting. It means ensuring that an organization does not lose its direction when the industry undergoes fundamental change.

For PROPAMI’s leadership, this requires looking beyond immediate organizational needs and preparing a strong foundation for the next generation of capital market professionals.

The true legacy of a professional organization is not merely measured by membership numbers or the number of programs it has conducted.

A more important legacy is the professional culture it leaves behind.

Five Pillars for a Changing Industry

At 16, PROPAMI faces an industry landscape that is significantly different from the one that existed when the organization was founded.

Digitalization, the growth of retail investors, changing behavior among younger generations, and the acceleration of information flows require the organization to continuously adapt.

But adaptation does not mean abandoning principles.

Five values remain important foundations for professional and organizational development.

Professionalism Through Competence

The capital market leaves little room for professionals who stop learning.

Changes in financial instruments, technology, regulations, and investor behavior require practitioners to continuously update their capabilities.

Competence is the first line of defense against uncertainty.

Integrity in Every Action

Integrity is non-negotiable.

Every professional decision should be guided by considerations that extend beyond personal gain.

In an industry directly connected to money and trust, integrity is not merely a moral value. It is also an essential component of industry risk management.

Innovation in Responding to Change

Technological change is unavoidable.

Professional organizations must therefore be able to recognize emerging developments and transform them into opportunities to improve services, knowledge, and member capabilities.

Innovation is necessary to keep the profession relevant.

Collaboration to Build the Ecosystem

The capital market is a complex ecosystem involving regulators, exchanges, securities companies, issuers, investors, educational institutions, certification bodies, professional associations, and other stakeholders.

No single institution can work alone.

Collaboration is essential to building a healthy, credible, and sustainable capital market.

Creating Value for Industry, Members, and Society

A professional organization ultimately needs to generate broader value.

PROPAMI’s role is not limited to serving its members. It also seeks to contribute to the development of the industry and to improving public understanding and financial literacy.

The stronger the quality of the profession, the stronger the foundation of the industry.

The Digital Era and the Test of Ethics

Digital transformation presents significant opportunities for Indonesia’s capital market.

Access to information has become more open. Transactions are easier. Investors from increasingly diverse age groups can participate more quickly.

But technology also creates new challenges.

The speed of information can trigger impulsive decisions. Unverified information can spread within minutes. Algorithms, social media, and digital platforms can shape investor perceptions far faster than in previous eras.

In this environment, capital market professionals need a broader set of capabilities.

Understanding numbers is no longer enough.

Professionals must be able to understand context, verify information, assess risks, comply with regulations, and protect investor interests and market integrity.

Aji Martono believes this challenge has become increasingly important in an era of constant digital distraction.

“In this highly distracting digital era, PROPAMI stands as both a reminder and a driving force: intelligence without ethics is emptiness,” he said.

The message is clear: technology should strengthen professionalism, not replace it.

From Celebration to Reflection

PROPAMI’s 16th anniversary is not simply an occasion to celebrate the organization’s history.

It is also a moment for reflection.

What has been successfully built? What still needs to be improved? Which professional capabilities need greater attention? And where should PROPAMI take Indonesia’s capital market profession in the years ahead?

Those questions are ultimately more important than the age of the organization itself.

A professional organization’s journey never truly ends. Every change in the industry creates new challenges. Every generation brings new expectations. And every technological development introduces new forms of risk.

For this reason, PROPAMI’s future success should not be measured solely by how long the organization has existed, but by the scale of its contribution to professional standards and the wider capital market.

Keeping the Profession on the Right Path

Choosing the right professional path amid the enormous flow of money in the capital market is not always easy.

There are competing interests, performance targets, competition, and constant pressure to deliver results. There can also be temptations to take shortcuts.

This is precisely why professional organizations matter.

For 16 years, PROPAMI has sought to create a space where professionals can learn, grow, collaborate, and remind one another that success in the capital market cannot be measured solely by financial returns.

There is another measure that lasts much longer:

How much trust has been preserved.

Indonesia’s future capital market needs professionals who are not only capable of analyzing numbers but also willing to say no to practices that could undermine market integrity.

The industry needs people who can use technology without losing their moral judgment.

And society needs a capital market ecosystem that is credible, inclusive, transparent, and resilient enough to withstand future changes and crises.

This is where PROPAMI’s work remains unfinished.

Sixteen years is not the finish line.

It is a starting point for the next chapter.

Ultimately, a healthy capital market is not defined only by the value of transactions recorded each day. It is also defined by how effectively trust is protected behind those numbers.

Happy 16th Anniversary, PROPAMI.

May the organization’s continued journey strengthen professionalism, uphold integrity, develop competence, and ensure that the dignity of Indonesia’s capital market profession remains strong amid a rapidly changing world.

Because in an industry where trust is the most important form of capital, safeguarding professional integrity is not an additional responsibility. It is part of the profession itself.
