The Media Friendship Forum of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia (FORSIMEMA-RI) successfully held a discussion titled The Role of the Supreme Court of Indonesia in Achieving Legal Justice in the Digital Era at AGS Restaurant, Piere Tendean, Mampang, South Jakarta.
The event brought together media practitioners and legal experts to discuss the Supreme Court’s role in the rapid development of digital technology.
The discussion featured prominent speakers, including Lecturer and Lawyer Dr. Aturkian Laia, SH, MH, CFHA, cHA, CEFT, and Dr. Fetrus, SH, MH, CTA, CMed. These two legal experts shared insights on the impact of technology on Indonesia’s judiciary and how the Supreme Court can adapt to the digital era.
Also present at the event were SS Budi Raharjo, an Anti-Drug Activist and Chairman of the Indonesian Digital Media Association, as well as Syamsul Bahri, Chairman of FORSIMEMA-RI. They provided perspectives on the importance of media and technology in the legal process.
Dr. Fetrus highlighted the significance of judicial reform through technology implementation, including e-litigation (electronic trials). According to him, this service represents a significant step in achieving Indonesia’s justice reform and improving court transparency and accountability.
“One of the indicators of an excellent judiciary is transparency and accountability that is accessible to the public, especially justice seekers,” said Dr. Aturkian Laia. He emphasized that the synergy between information technology (IT) and procedural law (IT for judiciary) can accelerate the realization of an advanced judicial system.
SS Budi Raharjo underscored the critical role of public relations in the digital era. He stated that public relations not only serve as information disseminators but also as a strategic element in building the judiciary’s reputation and addressing technological advancements.
Similarly, Syamsul Bahri stressed the need for synergy between public relations and the media. He pointed out that public relations officers should maintain good relationships with journalists to ensure that the information conveyed to the public is accurate and balanced.
Both SS Budi Raharjo and Syamsul Bahri expressed hope that the Supreme Court’s Public Relations and other judicial institutions would be more open in communicating with the mass media. This openness is essential in countering the influx of unverified information from social media.
“The service and synergy established with the mass media should serve as an example for all judicial institutions in Indonesia,” said Syamsul Bahri. He also commended the Public Relations Office of the South Jakarta District Court for providing excellent public communication services despite budget constraints.
In conclusion, Syamsul Bahri expressed his hope that the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Prof. Dr. Sunarto, SH, MH, would encourage the Supreme Court’s Public Relations and other judicial institutions to continue fostering constructive relationships with the media.
“May the good relations and communication between public relations and the media continue to strengthen, ensuring news coverage with integrity,” he concluded.
Through this discussion, FORSIMEMA-RI aims to further strengthen the relationship between judicial institutions and the media, ensuring that transparency and accountability in the judicial system are upheld in line with digital technological advancements.
