PT Karian Water Services (KWS) has officially signed an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract with the Joint Operation of GS Engineering & Construction Corp. (GS E&C) and PT Korindo Konstruksi. This significant milestone follows the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Agreement established in 2021 between KWS and the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, which serves as the Government Contracting Agency (GCA).

The total estimated cost for the project is approximately IDR 3.4 trillion, marking it as the first project financing scheme in Indonesia’s water sector. This initiative sets a vital precedent for future water sector projects across the nation.

KWS, established as a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) under the PPP Agreement, comprises a consortium formed by Korea Water Resources Corporation (a South Korean state-owned enterprise) and PT Adhi Karya (Persero) Tbk (an Indonesian state-owned enterprise).

The consortium has secured a 36-year concession to construct a Water Treatment Plant with a capacity of 4,600 liters per second, aimed at providing access to clean and safe drinking water for millions of residents in Jakarta, Tangerang, and South Tangerang.

Ismeth Wibowo, Senior Advisor at K Water, expressed strong support for Korean investments in Indonesia, particularly in the renewable energy sector. He emphasized that such initiatives are crucial for sustainable development and meeting the increasing demand for environmentally friendly energy sources.

“Investing in this project is not just about infrastructure; it represents a tangible step towards enhancing water and energy resilience in Indonesia. We believe that this collaboration will bring long-term benefits to the community,” Wibowo stated.

With the backing of Korean investment, K Water aims to contribute further to the development of Indonesia’s new and renewable energy sectors, aligning with the country’s vision for sustainable and eco-friendly growth. Through projects like this, Indonesia seeks to strengthen its infrastructure, address the needs of its citizens, and work towards broader sustainability goals.
