indonesiabrief.com/ — IPDN and Ministry of Home Affairs Monitor Public Order and Community Protection in South Sumatra

The Institute of Public Administration (IPDN), under the Ministry of Home Affairs, took part in monitoring the implementation of Public Order and Community Protection (Trantibumlinmas) in South Sumatra Province from September 12 to 13, 2025.

Representing the IPDN Rector, the Deputy Rector for General Administration, Dr. Arief M. Edie, M.Si, carried out the monitoring in line with directives from the Minister of Home Affairs.

As previously emphasized by the Minister of Home Affairs, 11 key directives have been issued to maintain public security, including revitalizing neighborhood security patrols (Siskamling) at the RT/RW level.

“In accordance with the Minister’s directives, we visited RT 34 RW 05 in Sukodadi Subdistrict and RT 04 RW 02 in Talang Semut Subdistrict, Palembang City, to monitor Trantibumlinmas. We also conducted outreach and discussions with local residents,” said Arief.

Arief highlighted that Siskamling in both Sukodadi and Talang Semut is already functioning well, with adequate facilities and infrastructure in place. “The community here hopes the government will provide greater support for this ongoing program,” he added.

Beyond supervising Siskamling, Arief also encouraged residents to take an active role in safeguarding their neighborhoods.

“In addition to reactivating Siskamling, we suggest the community optimize the use of Posyandu (integrated health service posts), support MSMEs for household needs, and participate actively in resident data collection—such as identifying pregnant women, the sick, and those living in boarding houses or rented housing. Another important step is installing CCTV in strategic locations,” he explained.

Arief’s visit to Palembang was not limited to field monitoring. He also attended the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum Meeting, which brought together the Head of the South Sumatra National and Political Unity Agency (Kesbangpol), the Head of the Provincial Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP), and other regional leaders.

The forum reaffirmed the Minister’s 11 directives in addressing evolving public security dynamics.

“In essence, the Minister has instructed the reactivation of Siskamling, the revitalization of family welfare programs (TP PKK), and other regional government initiatives aimed at fostering a conducive security situation, such as social assistance, affordable market movements, and more,” Arief concluded.
