Mother of Pearl Vodka Makes Indonesian Debut with a New Perspective on Premium Spirits
JAKARTA — In a spirits market traditionally defined by neutrality and purity, Australia’s Mother of Pearl Vodka is introducing a different narrative—one centered on character, provenance, and craftsmanship.
The ultra-premium vodka brand has officially entered Indonesia, bringing with it a distinctive grape-based spirit distilled from late-harvest Pinot Gris grapes. The launch marks the company’s latest step in expanding its footprint across Southeast Asia and comes as Indonesian consumers increasingly seek premium products with authentic stories and unique origins.
Unlike conventional grain-based vodkas that dominate the category, Mother of Pearl Vodka emphasizes texture, minerality, and a sense of place. Distilled entirely in-house in Australia, the spirit delivers a silky mouthfeel, subtle mineral notes, and a clean finish that reflects the characteristics of its Pinot Gris base.
According to Nic Hancock, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Mother of Pearl Vodka, Indonesia represents a strategic market for the brand’s regional growth ambitions.
“The launch of Mother of Pearl Vodka in Indonesia marks an exciting new chapter for us in Southeast Asia,” Hancock said. “As demand for premium spirits continues to grow, we are excited to introduce a grape-based vodka that offers both precision and character to a dynamic and increasingly sophisticated market.”
The brand’s identity is deeply influenced by coastal life and the ocean, elements reflected throughout its visual presentation. Its minimalist bottle design incorporates subtle color accents and light-reflective details inspired by the iridescent qualities of mother-of-pearl and the ever-changing nature of the sea.
That philosophy was showcased during the brand’s official Indonesian launch at Dualism Bar in Jakarta, where hospitality professionals, media representatives, and industry stakeholders gathered for an immersive evening highlighting the concepts of movement, light, and texture.
The event featured a curated food-and-cocktail pairing experience developed in collaboration with Kilo Jakarta. Signature dishes such as wasabi tuna tartare, truffled tai yuzu roll, steak tartare, and dark chocolate crémeux were paired with classic vodka cocktails including the Caipiroska, Moscow Mule, Salty Dog, and Vodka Martini. Each pairing was designed to demonstrate the versatility and complexity of the spirit.
The experiential approach reflects a broader movement within the premium beverage industry, where brands increasingly focus on creating memorable consumer experiences alongside product offerings.
For Nicola Thompson-Hancock, Co-Founder and Chief Marketing Officer, Indonesia’s rapidly evolving premium segment presents significant opportunities.
“Introducing Mother of Pearl Vodka to Indonesia is an important milestone that reflects both the strength of the brand and the opportunity within a rapidly developing premium market,” she said. “We are bringing a contemporary interpretation of luxury vodka that resonates with modern consumers while building meaningful local connections.”
To establish its presence in the country, Mother of Pearl Vodka has partnered with local distributor Edhi Sumadi. He noted that Indonesia’s hospitality and nightlife industries are becoming increasingly receptive to premium spirits distinguished by craftsmanship, authenticity, and compelling brand narratives.
Following its launch, Mother of Pearl Vodka is now available through Drip Drop Bottleshop and selected premium venues, including Dualism, The Swillhouse, Vault Jakarta, The Grand South House, and Club Raia.
The brand’s arrival comes amid a continuing premiumization trend across Indonesia’s consumer landscape, where discerning customers are placing greater value on quality, origin, and experience.
In a category often associated with discretion and subtlety, Mother of Pearl Vodka is positioning itself as more than another luxury label. Instead, it seeks to redefine expectations of what vodka can be—offering not just purity, but personality.
For a spirit traditionally celebrated for what it lacks, that may be its most distinctive quality.
